Salami and Sausage Have Gone Gourmet
March 28th, 2007 at 11:45am Lorie Obernauer
Salami has gone gourmet! According to an article in the Atlantic Journal Constitution, smoked meats are gaining in popularity in the most upscale restaurants and specialty food stores. Read the full story about how salamis and sausages are dried and cured, as well as information about the most popular dried meats that you might find in the market place. If you really want to learn more, go to the American Association of Meat Processors for information on food safety, regulations and more.
In the meantime, think about using salami and sausages in your gift baskets. Paired with crackers and cheeses, these are great for picnic baskets. Add a jar of mustard, along with some chips and your customers will have a full meal in their gourmet gift baskets. Keep these products in mind for Father’s Day baskets too!

I think it’s terrific that salami and sausage are two products that can be added to just about every gift basket, which means that the inventory turnover makes the profit potential enormous.
The only reason that I’ve eliminated salami or sausage from a gift basket is due to dietary restrictions. Individuals coming from the hospital may not be able to digest the products. Other people (I’m one of them) simply cannot eat it.
Still, the popularity of both products puts it in the plus column for the entire industry.

I’m happy to read of the increasing popularity of salami and sausage, especially as great components in a gift basket.
I’ve always favored these meats because of their long shelf life, their ease of eating and because they’re enjoyed by many people.
Add crackers, mustard and a delicious bottled drink and you have a ready-made picnic, tasty lunch or easy road-trip sustenance.
