Color of the Year for Gift Basket Designs

Color trends as predicted by Pantone and other “trend” organizations usually affect home, housewares and clothing markets first. I just returned from a buying trip for our wholesale floral supply business and we saw many shades of red used in holiday decorations. Designers used multiple shades of red in a single display and also paired these deep rich reds with bright lime and sage greens.
If you want your baskets to reflect the popular trends for the upcoming year, include products in bright, bold shades of red in all your designs (not just holiday designs). Look for packaging in other bright colors that will complement the red tones such as tangerine orange, lemon yellow, and lime green. Keep up with the trends and your customers will come back for more!

Thanks Flora. It’s interesting to watch trends in other industries and see how they will play out in the gourmet food industry. I think that the floral industry is a great gauge for us in gift basket businesses.

Thanks for sharing the article Lorie. I followed your link to read more about color trends. This makes me think about featuring more fruit gift baskets because of their bold colors. The Red Hat Club will also be glad to see this (my mother’s a member). I’ve always known florists, because of their focus on presentation were important for generating new ideas, but your comment deserves yet another look at the cutting edge creative work in this industry. Thanks for your comments! I think it is fun and informative to look at what is happening in related industries for new, fresh ideas. Certainly, gift basket retailers and florists have a lot in common: both types of businesses involve giving gifts for special occasions.
