There’s an article in the May 4th issue of the Washington Post entitled “Putting a Bold Face on Design Trends“. At the Kips Bay Decorator Showhouse, an annual event where New York designers can “strut their stuff”, current color and design trends are revealed in the fantastic furnishings.

In 1997 when I attended my first seminar presented by The Color Association (which you mention in your post), I finally realized how important color trends are to gift basket creation.
It was fascinating to hear how color trends are determined, and I agree with you about how important it is to be on the cutting edge of color, which helps to sell more gifts and baskets each year.

I try to make it a point to regularly visit local shops (gift stores, furniture stores, clothing shops) that carry upscale merchandise and may be on the “cutting edge” of their industries. It’s a great way to see the colors that will be popular in upcoming seasons. Reading fashion and home decorating magazines is another to learn about upcoming color trends.
